What is Removable Dentistry?

Removable dentistry, also known as removable prosthodontics, is a branch of dentistry that deals with the design, construction, and fitting of removable dental appliances. These appliances, which can be taken out and put back into the mouth by the patient, are used to replace missing teeth, support natural teeth, or improve the function and appearance of the mouth. Examples of removable dental appliances include dentures, partial dentures, and removable orthodontic appliances.

Types of Preventative Dentistry

Night Guards

A nightguard is a type of dental appliance that is worn at night to protect the teeth from grinding and clenching. A custom-made appliance that fits over the upper or lower teeth.

Dentures

Dentures are used to help bring back somebody’s smile when their own teeth are missing. Traditionally they have been removable, but dentures now can be secured in place.

Appointment Overview

Dentures

If you are considering removable dentistry, you should expect to have a comprehensive evaluation by our dentist, Dr John Hann. This will typically include a thorough examination of your mouth, teeth, and gums, as well as any existing dentures you may have. Dr. Hann will also take measurements and impressions of your mouth, which will be used to create custom-fit dentures.

During the initial visit, Dr. Hann will discuss your treatment options with you and help you decide which type of removable denture is right for you. We will provide you with information on how to care for your dentures and what to expect during the denture-making process.

If you decide to proceed with removable dentistry, Corners Dentistry will schedule follow-up visits to monitor your progress and ensure that your dentures are fitting properly. These visits will typically include adjustments and modifications to ensure a comfortable and secure fit.

Appointment Overview

Night Guards

If you think you may need a nightguard, the first step is to schedule an appointment with Dr. John Hann. During the appointment, your dentist will evaluate your teeth and determine whether a nightguard is necessary. If it is, we will take an impression of your teeth and send it to a dental laboratory where the nightguard will be custom-made to fit your mouth. Once the nightguard is ready, you will need to return to the dentist’s office to have it fitted and adjusted as necessary. It’s important to follow your dentist’s instructions for wearing and caring for your nightguard to ensure that it is effective and comfortable.
